A Gift That Outlasts the MomentMost gifts to New Mexico Spotlight Foundation (NMSF) go straight to immediate needs—legal defense against eviction, emergency rent, keeping working artists working. A major or planned gift can do something different: it can build capacity that doesn't run out.

Two ways this often works well for donors giving at a significant level: Appreciated Stock or SecuritiesIf you're holding stock, mutual fund shares, or other assets that have grown in value, donating them directly—rather than selling and donating cash—can be more efficient for both sides.

You may be able to avoid capital gains tax on the appreciation while still claiming the full fair-market-value deduction, and NMSF receives the full value of the asset. The exact benefit depends on your holding period, cost basis, and personal tax situation—we recommend a short conversation with your tax advisor, and we're happy to loop them in.Planned & Legacy GiftsA bequest, a beneficiary designation, or a multi-year pledge lets you make a major commitment without affecting your finances today. It's also a way to name a fund, a region, or a discipline—film, music, theater, visual arts—that reflects what matters most to you. What Stays the Same, at Any Gift SizeNew Mexico Spotlight Foundation retains independent discretion over which artists and applicants receive support. That's what keeps every gift here fully charitable, and it's also how we protect the integrity of the process for the artists we serve. What you can shape is the fund's purpose and scope—not individual recipients.Let's TalkConsidering a significant or long-term gift? We'd rather have a conversation than send you a form to fill out.
